So this will be the first of many posts, at least once a week and whenever I read a new (for me) trade paperback or graphic novel. The plan is to post at least every Wednesday (or near then) when the new comic books drop. I won’t be reviewing everything that gets put in my box, cause quite frankly, that is a lot. I also tend to favor Marvel over anything else, so the focus will be there, on the main events, the Avengers, and of course my favorite, Spider-man. I also read some Dark Horse, so there will be occasional reviews of the Star Wars series (Dark Times, Invasion, and Legacy.)
Of course for the sake of anyone concerned, all reviews will be placed behind a cut, for the obvious reason that they will contain spoilers. I will probably write a short synopsis for those that are curious about what’s happening in other series without desiring to purchase them. So you’ve been forewarned. Onward, to the first reviews!

So it seems the bastardization of the vampire archetype continues as Twilight further transforms what were once intimidating, feared creatures of the night into sparkly, brooding teenagers with angst. They are taking the original novels and reproducing them as graphic novels. Because of the size of the original source, the first book is being split up into two volumes. Perhaps appropriately, the graphic novel is being done in the very popular shojo manga style, which has always been geared toward younger girls. And they seem to be expecting quite the favorable response; the first print of the graphic novel calls for 350,000 copies.
As much of a fan of the format that I am, I can’t see what point there is in making this. There are already the four novels, the two movies, and more on the way. The stories have been told and visualized. As far as I can tell, the story won’t be changing in any significant way. This is basically just a poorly veiled gimmick to earn some more money.

So the news has been out for a little while now about the new Spider-man movie being a reboot of the series. Raimi and Maguire are gone; in now is a new director and an all new cast. I figure being a huge Spidey fan, I should put in my two cents on the happenings.
Raimi being out is saddening, but I respect him for his decision to walk. He did great things with Spider-man 1 & 2, and they completely robbed him of creative power for the third installment. We all saw what happened with that. Faced with the same creative restrictions for the fourth movie, and less and less time to produce a quality film, he decided that he was no longer going to do it. More power to him. I respect a person that sticks to his or her values.
